WoW Enchanting

WoW Enchanting

Enchanting is a World of Warcraft profession that gives players the ability to place enchants on gear and weapons. These enchants provide the items enchanted with stat increases, increased mana regen, and increased damage output, among other things. Not only are enchanters able to enchant their own gear, they can enchant others gear, even if it is soulbound, just by opening up a trade window with the item in it. Enchanters are able to train a wide variety of enchants that are helpful to all classes, therefore, enchanters are commonly found in every class, from warriors to priests. As of the release of the Burning Crusade enchanters are also able to create some items to be placed into open sockets, providing an stat upgrade to the item.

A bonus of having enchanting as a profession is that there is no gathering profession required to successfully obtain the items required for enchants. Instead enchanting requires that enchanters disenchant (a skill provided when enchanting is trained) items that are “green” or better. Once disenchanted the item is destroyed the enchanter receives supplies used for enchanting. A downside to obtaining enchanting supplies is that expensive items are destroyed in order to obtain the supplies needed for enchants. So instead of selling items for money enchanters disenchant the items to get supplies. This process leaves many enchanters broke, that is until they obtain a sought after enchant, which they can then charge people for and make gold.

Since enchanting is useful to every class, it is appropriate for it to be chosen as a profession by just about anyone. However if you are starting a new character and know that you want to be an enchanter you may want to consider being a Blood Elf if you are rolling Horde since Blood Elves have the passive racial skill of increased enchanting. However, if you are playing Alliance or don't want to be a Blood Elf, any other race is able to train enchanting, you just won't receive the passive racial ability of increased enchanting.

If you like the idea of not having to use a gathering profession to support your main profession or don't want to pay others to enchant your gear then you might want to consider picking up enchanting as a profession. Besides being able to enchant your own gear, a bonus of being an enchanter is that you can make large amounts of gold by charging others for enchants. Happy enchanting!
