WoW Jewelcrafting

Jewelcrafting is a tradeskill profession that was released with the Burning Crusade expansion. It provides players with the ability to create rings, necklaces, trinkets, healing statues, and even unexpected oddities like cloth items and fist weapons. At higher levels jewelcrafters are highly sought after because of their ability to cut precious gems to be placed into socketed items. These gems provide players with bonuses to their characters such as increased stats, extra mana regen, and improved critical strike rating.

Jewelcrafting is not better for one class or another, it is truly an all around profession from which every class can benefit. Some professions such as leatherworking and blacksmithing are severely limited by some classes inability to wear their crafted items and the usefulness of a profession like tailoring is questionable for a leather or plate wearer. But once again, jewelcrafting is beneficial for every World of Warcraft class.

If you'd like to be able to create your own trinkets, rings, and necklaces, and cut your own gems jewelcrafting is the profession you want to choose. An important factor to note when you decide to take up jewelcrafting is that the components for jewelcrafting are found by mining. So if you despise the idea of running your character around looking for veins to mine then you might want to just buy the crafted items from another jewelcrafter and find yourself a different profession. If you still really want to become a jewelcrafter but don't want to waste time mining you can always buy the supplies you need on the auction house...that is if you have the money and can find them.

If you are starting a new character and know you want to do jewelcrafting consider becoming a Draenei if you are rolling Alliance because they have the racial passive skill of increased jewelcrafting. If you are not rolling Alliance or don't want to be a Draenei then don't worry, any other race can train the profession, you just won't have the racial passive jewelcrafting skill.
